Overcome Laziness and Become a Successful Person

Overcome Laziness and Become a Successful Person Get Things Done: Overcoming Laziness Even though all of us are mortal, for some reason we dont seem to care that we have limited time on this planet. To find purpose, to love, to see the world, to know thyself to accomplish all these things, we have on average 70 years if were lucky. If not, we have even less time. Unfortunately, laziness and procrastination is in our nature. However, in every human theres also a successful person, who cant reveal him/herself without the right effort. The question is how can we wake this successful person up and deal with laziness and procrastination? How can we start valuing the precious moments that we have on this wonderful planet and begin doing something that really matters? Lets look at these five tips to help you beat laziness quickly: Take action. As simple as that. If you dont want to write, sit down and start writing. If you dont want to read, sit down and start reading. If you dont feel like exercising youve got the idea. Procrastination happens when you listen to that Gollum voice in your head. With all your strength, make it shut up and just start doing what you need to do. You can never start if you keep listening to it. One bite at a time. Imagine that you are served with a delicious meal and told that you need to eat it in one bite; otherwise, it will be taken away. Could you do this? None of us could, because fortunately we have normal-sized mouths. So, if you cant do that, why to project this one giant bite attitude to your daily tasks? Take one bite at a time and you can even start finding your tasks pleasurable. On the other hand, if you try to do everything at once, you will do nothing and lose the motivation. Most of the time, it is we who make our lives difficult. Remove the distractions. When we dont want to do something, even such things as cleaning the closet, start to look for an attractive side. We also tend to follow different distractions around us watch TV series, scroll Facebook pages, read blogs etc. Focus on what youre doing without any distractions (disconnect the Internet, turn off the TV and put your phone on a fly-mode) and take some rest when youre done. Find motivation. Remind yourself how important is what youre doing. If the things youre doing stopped being important, then its time for introspection and recapping your goals. Reward yourself. Of course, you dont want to become a robot. And you dont have to; you can reward yourself after each completed task. In fact, this is one of the greatest ways to stay motivated. Take a little nap, go for a 15-minute walk, or perform some activity that you like. This way, you will have more motivation to get things done. The most difficult part in overcoming laziness is taking action. So, heres a final straightforward recommendation turn off that bad friends voice in your head, and just start making things happen.

Supporting High School Students with Dyslexia

Supporting High School Students with Dyslexia There is a great deal of information on recognizing the signs of dyslexia and ways to help students with dyslexia in the classroom that can be modified to help children in elementary grades as well as students in high school, such as using multisensory approaches to teaching. But students with dyslexia in high school may need some additional supports. The following are some tips and suggestions for working with and supporting high school students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.Provide a syllabus for your class early in the year. This gives both your student and the parents an outline of your course as well as an advance notice on any large projects. Many times students with dyslexia find it extremely difficult to listen to a lecture and take notes at the same time. They may be focusing on writing the notes and miss important information. There are several ways teachers can help students who find this problematic. Allow students to tape record lessons. Students can listen to the recordings later, at home, where they can stop the recording to write down important points. Many times students with dyslexia find it extremely difficult to listen to a lecture and take notes at the same time. They may be focusing on writing the notes and miss important information.Provide written notes before or after the lecture. This allows students to focus on what you are saying, while still having written information to refer to later.Pair students with another student to share notes. Again, students can focus on what is being said without having to worry about trying to write down important points. Create checkpoints for large assignments. During the high school years, students are frequently responsible for completing term or research papers. Often, students are given an outline of the project and a due date. Students with dyslexia may have a hard time with time management and organize information. Work with your student in breaking down the project into several smaller steps and create benchmarks for you to review their progress.Choose books that are available on audio. When assigning a book-length reading assignment, check to be sure the book is available on audio and check with your school or local library to find out if they can have a few copies on hand for students with reading disabilities if your school is not able to purchase copies. Students with dyslexia can benefit from reading the text while listening to the audio.Have students use Spark Notes to check comprehension and to use as a review for book-length reading assignments. The notes provide a chapter by chapter outline of the book and can also be used to give students an overview before reading. Always start lessons by summarizing information that was covered in the previous lesson and providing a summary of what will be discussed today. Understanding the big picture helps students with dyslexia better understand and organize the details of the lesson.Be available before and after school for extra help. Students with dyslexia may feel uncomfortable asking questions aloud, fearing other students will think they are stupid. Let students know what days and times you are available for questions or extra help when they dont understand a lesson.Provide a list of vocabulary words when beginning a lesson. Whether science, social studies, math or language arts, many lessons have specific words specific to the current topic. Giving students a list before beginning the lesson has been shown to be helpful for students with dyslexia. These sheets can be compiled into a notebook to create a glossary to help students prepare for final exams.Allow students to take notes on a laptop. Student s with dyslexia often have poor handwriting. They may get home and not even be able to understand their own notes. Letting them type their notes may help.Provide study guides before final exams. Take several days before the exam to review the information included in the test. Give study guides that have all information or have blanks for students to fill in during the review. Because students with dyslexia have trouble organizing information and separating inconsequential information from important information, these study guides give them specific topics to review and study.Keep open lines of communication. Students with dyslexia may not have the confidence to talk with teachers about their weaknesses. Let students know you are there to be supportive and offer whatever help they may need. Take time to speak with students privately.Let the student with dyslexias case manager (special education teacher) know when a test is coming up so he or she can review content with the student. Give students with dyslexia a chance to shine. Although tests may be difficult, students with dyslexia may be great at creating powerpoint presentations, making 3-D representations or giving an oral report. Ask them what ways they would like to present information and let them show off. The efficacy of art therapy or CBT Research Proposal

The efficacy of art therapy or CBT - Research Proposal Example Participants are to be selected through random sampling. The research procedure to be used will be experimental, with a control group whose serotonin levels, heart rate and other measures will be tested before and after the test using a t-test. This will be supplemented with survey questionnaires and the hypothesis will be rejected at 0.05. Body dysmorphic disorder is a psychiatric condition that is associated with anxiety about one’s body image, especially common in female teenagers and young women. The patient obsesses about a perceived defect and assumes that it makes her look very ugly, while this might not be the case because the patient might actually look quite normal. One of the problems associated with this is that the condition is associated with extreme levels of anxiety that might even deteriorate to the point where it translated into acute depression. In a meta-analytic review of cognitive behavioural interventions which have been used in treating anxiety and depression, Smits et al (2008) found that the use of CBT had been found to be efficacious in the treatment of anxiety; as a result, it may also be possible to apply it effectively in treating the anxiety associated with body dysmorphic disorder in females. It must be pointed out however, that while there are some studies which have been carried out on CBT and its efficacy in alleviating anxiety in general, the results are not conclusive enough to be applied on a generalized basis. The problem which arises in this context is: can CBT be applied specifically in the context of 18 to 21 year old females who are suffering from anxiety associated with body dysmorphic disorder, in order to alleviate such anxieties? Body dysmorphic disorder is a relatively severe psychiatric disorder wherein patients who have it appear to think they look ugly or deformed although in reality, they may be quite normal

Business design Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Business design - Essay Example Success has many parents, and good design is only one of them. Good business is creating different designs to increase chances of success in the world. Poorly designed, dishonorable, destructive systems are the best human can do. This design serves as a platform for the future designing as they provide base for better designs. Human industry can be transformed through ecologically intelligent designs. Poorly designed sketches can be the roots of the industrial revolution. A poor designer may after creating a dishonorable design quit the work and admits failure. A failure of their imagination is the ultimate failure. Their work should be remarked â€Å"less bad† than â€Å"no good†. This is a very depressing vision of our role in the world. Instead of discouraging ourselves, we should enhance the sense of satisfaction and general well-being. This is how we might be able to play a more transformative role. Our energies and creativity needs to be appropriately scheduled and well directed. Less bad is good than to consider yourself as a failure or a loser. After continuous failure, we often avoid success by distorting our perception of the world outside. We humans need to feel good about ourselves. In order to progress and improve business, we need to make industry less destructive. World Business Council for Sustainable development (WBCSD) emphasized on eco-efficiency. It is based on the concept of creating more goods and services while using fewer resources and creating less waste and pollution. We can achieve eco-efficiency by providing goods and services that satisfy human needs and bring quality of life. It will progressively reduce environmental impacts of goods. Eco-efficiency includes a reduction in the material and energy intensity, reduced dispersion of waste and toxic materials, improved recyclability, maximum use of renewable resources, greater durability of products and increased service

Leadership Styles and Their Effect on CEOs Essay Example for Free

Leadership Styles and Their Effect on CEOs Essay Abstract The purpose of this essay is to analyze, compare, and contrast the leadership styles of two influential CEOs. I have collected information from many internet sources that elaborate on the life, achievements, and misfortunes of Jack Welch and Steve Jobs, and how they overcame their obstacles to become the best CEOs of all time. Leadership Styles and Their Effect on CEOs Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive. Jack Welch and Steve Jobs exemplify the true meaning of what a leader is. Their personality traits of being conscientious open to experiences, extroversion, persistent, and passionate has led them to be the most phenomenal visionary leaders of their time. Jack Welch was the chairman and CEO of General Electric between 1981 and 2001. During his duration at GE, he managed to introduce a fresh and innovative leadership style. Welch developed a ranking system that put employees in one of three categories. The top 20 percent were â€Å"stars†, the middle 70 percent were the crucial majority, and the bottom 10 percent were weeded out (Bloomberg, 1998). I admire and strongly agree with Welch’s management approach of making employee’s accountable. If you are hired to perform a job, then expecting results of a certain quality is justified. In addition, I believe that Welch’s passion for productivity and results allowed him to achieve effective performance management within his company. Results create success, and I believe most people tend not to raise their standards high enough if there are not serious repercussions that follow, such as being dismissed for not providing results. Welch most notable achievement was increasing the market value of the General Electric firm. As CEO he increased it from approximately $12 billion when he took over, to a colossal $505 at the time of his retirement (Management, 2012). He managed to make GE the world’s second largest company with a market capitalization that was only exceeded by Microsoft. Through hard work and perseverance Welch managed to attain legendary status of being one of the greatest CEOs of all time. Leadership Styles and Their Effect on CEOs Steve Jobs was an entrepreneur, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. As the CEO of the company, Jobs covered the development of the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad, and on the services side the company’s Apple Retail Stores, iTunes store, and the App store. The success of these products under Jobs provided stable years of financial return, and propelled Apple to become the world’s most valuable publically traded company. The reinvigoration of the company is regarded by commentators as one of the greatest turnarounds in business history (Gallo, 2011). Jobs was a â€Å"one-in-a-billion† innovator with a bulldog mentality. He created a vision and relentlessly drove it into completion. Jobs was a demanding perfectionist who always aspired to position his business and products at the forefront of the technology industry by understanding and setting trends with innovation and style. His reputation was built on being a brutal force and often destroyed staff for their â€Å"bozo† ideas and typically shrugged off his associates suggestions in favor of his own gut instinct. Moreover, he only wanted what he called â€Å"A-players†. Meaning that they had to be brilliant and he insisted that under the threat of being fired, that they would never reveal any of Apple’s secrets inside or outside of the organization (Juarez, 2011). In summary, both Welch and Jobs are extraordinary leaders who demonstrate charismatic and transformational leadership styles. They both have very similar qualities in wanting to produce results. However, they differ because Welch’s management style was cut throat in the sense of firing employees who did not perform. Yet, he was still open to the ideas of managers and employees, and empowered them. On the other hand, Jobs leadership style is regarded as unconventional and being a dictator, who only listens to his own intuition. References Bloomberg, L,P. (6/28/2012). How Jack Welch Runs GE. Maybe :: Essays Papers

Maybe It is extremely difficult to peer up into the heavens on a dark, clear night and not wonder if there are others, somewhere up there, wondering the same thing. The expanse is overwhelming, even before scientists spout their estimates and approximations. The grain-of-sand analogies don’t seem to say any more than we already know. It’s big. It’s real big. And each pinpoint of light seems to have the same answer for our questioning eyes: Maybe. If you just felt a rush of wonder, a breath of intellectual curiosity, then you just fell victim to an emotional literary technique. Though my intent was not to persuade you to any one point of view on extra-terrestrial life, I was trying to capture your attention as an audience. My attempt was not overly zealous because that would have worked against me. I tried to calculate it so as to engage your imagination without insulting your intelligence. It is a stratagem that is commonly used by those members of a profession based on logic whose target audience has a relatively high level of expected knowledge. Is there life somewhere else in the Universe? We don’t really know. The truth is, we won’t know until we’ve either found life, or we’ve searched every star in vain. Recent technological and strategical advancements have helped our attempt to answer this ultimate question. Though the resulting optimism may precede itself, it is, nonetheless, refreshing. An April 1996 article entitled â€Å"Searching For Life On Other Planets,† published by Scientific American, suggests that we will very likely have answers in the next decade. Making such a speculation without immediately losing all credibility is a feat that this article and its authors accomplish remarkably well. Every text, no matter what the field or subject, must persuade its reader in some form or another. Even small articles, written solely with the intent to inform, must persuade the reader that what they have written is true. Professors Roger Angel and Neville Woolf utilize logical appeal, or logos, during the majority of â€Å"Searching for Life on Other Planets† to obtain this end. That is to say, they created the article using systematic documentation and well-known example.

Mother Nature Knows Better in Chemistry Essay

Each and every one of us has a responsibility to protect our environment. Being thinking beings, we have all that it takes to keep our surroundings free from abuse and misuse. All we really need is to know what we do right and which actions we do wrongly to help lessen the effects of modernism to our planet. The history of life on earth has been a history of interaction between living things and their surroundings (Carson 420). Mother Nature is wise. Although all creatures have been given the proper habitats and basic needs to live, earth also provided organisms that would limit each species’ reproduction so that a healthy balance is acquired. This equilibrium has given peace on earth until man had learned to use his mind to alter his environment. The want for a better and comfortable life has always been man’s weakness. This has been the reason why history shows that different cultures have tried to get the best of other worlds into their own lands. Plants and animals have been imported by different countries to adapt these creatures to another culture’s different needs. However, this has destroyed the balance that nature had intended and has resulted to negative effects such as the transportation of unneeded microorganisms. Carson explains that each organism has counter creatures and aspects in its natural habitat that limit its population to the number that is needed to balance the environment it belongs to. Whenever an organism is transported to another place, there is no guarantee that the new habitat will be able to control its population. This, therefore, can become a threat to its new environment in the form of pests or even epidemics. Another reason for imbalance is the farming system that has been developed. When more than the normal quantity of crops are planted in just one place, the insects that are attracted to these also grow in abundance. Therefore, upsetting the natural balance of the environment causes problems like pestilence. Urban lifestyle has also contributed to the problems of insect infestation. In some countries, the natural habitat has been interrupted by the build up of too many houses (and slums) in just a particular piece of land. Irresponsible disposal of garbage and unhealthy habits also give rise to the problem of mosquitoes and other pests. Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT) has been the first synthetic pesticide that was ever invented to control infestation. Carson believes that this chemical and the other man-made pesticides leave particles on the areas that have been treated and this harms the other parts of the environment. This has become the premise for the invention of chemicals that will counter attack the problems of insects. The term â€Å"chemical† is defined by the Oxford Dictionary noun a distinct compound or substance, especially one which has been artificially prepared or purified. Being man-made, it can destroy the balance of nature. Modern society has a wide inventory of many chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. Some of these such as hair sprays, cleaning aids, smoke from cigarettes and cars, etc. do not seem harmful but researcher say otherwise. DDT has even been ascribed as a factor that leads to cancer. Ronald Bailey (427), an environmental reporter, believes that DDT has been falsely accused of being a carcinogen because research cannot prove that it really does cause cancer. However, environmentalists like Rachel Carson have ignorantly used this premise to increase awareness for our planet. Whether or not DDT is a carcinogen, it is just one of the synthetic materials that have come to dominate human living. Thousands of other inventions using chemicals have brought forth many problems that are not just harmful but also irreversible. Global warming, based on Encyclopaedia Britannica, is an increase in global average surface temperature resulting from an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide (caused by natural emissions of plants and combustion from carbon-containing materials), methane (produced industrially by the destructive distillation of bituminous coal in the manufacture of coal gas), and certain other trace gases in the atmosphere. Industrial emissions and smoke belching automobiles are being blamed for this phenomenon. This has caused a lot of controversy because it means that the earth is becoming too warm for human existence. However, according to climate scientists, human activities have very little effect on the climate, compared to many other factors, from volcanoes to clouds. (Sowell) Global warming is just an issue being used by other scientists to get grants for their studies. These researchers claim that with or without man’s inventions, nature has its own causes of global temperature changes. The truth in the many arguments about what civilization has done to the environment is hard to decipher for common students. However, whether or not pesticides are carcinogens and even if global-warming is a doubtful issue, our environment is a very important place that all must protect from abuse and misuse. Pesticides may not be immediately fatal for humans but to comply with universal laws, there is a need to use these in moderation. Anything overdone can lead to serious consequences such as food poisoning and allergies. Industrial wastes, even if they apparently do not really affect global-warming, can still cause pollution that leads to many health issues. The earth is the only home for us human beings. It is where we get our food and breathe the air that we need to survive. It provides us with the shelter we need to protect ourselves from the harsh realities of our own habitat. We need to find ways to start ensuring the safety of our environment against man’s drive to improve lives by ignoring possible negative consequences. The European nations are a model right now for environmental protection. Car companies need to recall their older less-functional models so that these can be recycled into new products for their later models. Other electronic gadgets like personal computers and mobile telephones are also being eyed for this project. Forced to recover value from their discarded consumer goods, companies will have a strong incentive to design the toxics out of their products and to make them easier to disassemble and remanufacture (Greider 3). As students, there are many ways that we can also help protect the environment. Proper garbage disposal not only makes places look neat but also drive away the possibility of diseases that are brought by the insects that get attracted to garbage. Maintaining electrical and mechanical gadgets according to manufacturer’s advice also ensures that these are performing safely instead of emitting probable poisonous discharges. Reporting to authorities regarding the incidences of environmental abuse or misuse can also bring solutions to possible harmful situations. It is often said that the roots of environmental destruction lie in treating natural resources as â€Å"free† and not giving them â€Å"value. ’ (Shiva 443) Each little creature on earth serves a purpose for Mother Nature in balancing our environment. It may be hard to understand the impact of our small actions but putting value to the environment can make big changes that can only be seen collectively in the future. We have our own place in this natural balance and it is our responsibility to find the ways to maintain this balance. My Ideal Partner Life

An ideal husband would be a person who is an ideal companion. Does it appear that I am running around in circles? I hope it does not. Through the traditional role of a husband is different from that of a wife, the qualities of a person are not sex-oriented,they are person-oriented. What do I want in the person I marry? My list may be a long one but it is sound in its priorities. I want the man I choose as a husband to be generous,to have a sense of humor and to be trusting and trustworthly. I would like to build our relationship on affection and respect and on complete frankness. A tall order? Let me explain myself. Affection and respect put together are the essence of love. They are more durable than the euphoria of romantic love linked to physical attraction. It is true that beauty contributes a great deal towards life’s pleasantness, but unreflecting, unthinking beauty has nothing to recommend itself. Respect in relationship is very importand, and note I mean respect ,note awe or fear or any other feeling but respect which includes self-respect and can be stretched a long way to cover the crevices or feelings. I would like my future husband to be frank with me and to discuss financial, emotional and other problems with me. for if there is any ground on which I cannot thread, or any occasion when I find the door closed against me,or any time when whispered conversation take place,or papers and letters are kept away,or I look askance and don’t get a reply, then there a lies the beginning distrust and rift. A marriage is a companionship,it extends into old age and can mature into a relationship where words need not be exchanged and still complete understanding my exist. It is a relationship which cannot be built on lies or half-truths. When I use the word ‘frank’ I do not only mean emotional friendship through they too are included. Is it not more grateful that my friends of the days when I was not yet married be known to my husband than that I spring a surprise on him or leave him to work his imagination in different directions? Similarly I would like to know about my husband’s friends-men and women. Frankness should extend to all money matters. I should know (and so should be) what our economics position is. A marriage is the basic of family,it grows and matures and strengthens over the years. It cannot do so when the partner concerned pull in different directions. A home is aplace where on feels there should be uneasiness,no appearances to maintain, where one should feel free to express onself and one’s own true self. This is possible if there is some basic enerosity in the members of the family for generosity backs up the desire to understand,to be less critical and more forgiving in one’s approach. Don’t you know that a grim man is stern and unforgiving? There are numerous little problems which can be laughed away. At times this capacity to take things lightly,to see the funny side of an otherwise grim situation may cement a relationship much more than anything else. Laughter keeps one young. It is the best medicine. So let’s live and laugh togethe r.

The Story of Philemon and Baucis

The Story of Philemon and Baucis According to ancient Roman mythology and Ovids Metamorphoses (8.631, 8.720.), Philemon and Baucis had lived out their long lives nobly, but in poverty. Jupiter, the Roman king of the gods, had heard of the virtuous couple, but based on all his previous experiences with humans, he had serious doubts as to their goodness. Jupiter was about to destroy mankind  but was willing to give it one final chance before starting over again. So, in the company of his son Mercury, the wing-footed messenger god, Jupiter went about, disguised as a worn and weary traveler, from house to house among the neighbors of Philemon and Baucis. As Jupiter feared and expected, the neighbors turned him and Mercury away rudely. Then the two gods went to the last house, the cottage of Philemon and Baucis, where the couple had lived all their long married lives. Philemon and Baucis were pleased to have visitors  and insisted that their guests rest before their little hearth fire. They even lugged in more of their precious firewood to make a greater blaze. Unasked, Philemon and Baucis then served their presumably starving guests, fresh fruits, olives, eggs, and wine. Soon the old couple noticed that no matter how often they poured from it, the wine pitcher was never empty. They began to suspect that their guests might be more than mere mortals. Just in case, Philemon and Baucis decided to provide the closest they could come to a meal that was fit for a god. They would slaughter their only goose in their guests honor. Unfortunately, the legs of the goose were faster than those of Philemon or Baucis. Even though the humans were not as fast, they were smarter, and so they cornered the goose inside the cottage, where they were just about to catch it.... At the last moment, the goose sought the shelter of the divine guests. To save the life of the goose, Jupiter and Mercury revealed themselves and immediately expressed their pleasure in meeting an honorable human pair. The gods took the pair to a mountain from which they could see the punishment their neighbors had suffered a devastating flood. Asked what divine favor they wanted, the couple said that they wished to become temple priests and die together. Their wish was granted and when they died they were turned into intertwining trees. What Is the Moral of the Story? Treat everyone well because you never know when youll find yourself in the presence of a god.

CONTRACT LAW ASSIGNMENT 4 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

CONTRACT LAW ASSIGNMENT 4 - Essay Example Contract terms of employment could change due to changed economic circumstances, or to bring about improvements in working conditions3. Materially changed circumstances are always admissible especially for the benefit of children. Contracts could be changed if there is an absolute change in the law4that occurs during the course of contract. If the other party becomes seriously ill, permanently incapacitated, called for military services or dies5 contract could be frustrated. If the contract depends on a certain state of affairs which alters, contracts could be frustrated6. Commercial purpose of contract could be frustrated if unalterable circumstances take place7. It also can happen if the main object of contract becomes void subsequently8 and the circumstances should be acceptable to Court. Fred and George have won the contract together for the installation of water system and this makes both of them bound by contract9. Still there is a contract between George and Fred and George defaults his side of it by delaying the work. Fred tries to accomplish his side of contract, but fails to do so, after doing three quarters of the work because he had to honour another contract. Fred has to be paid by George as he has done a lot of his share of work and it is George's delay that made Fred leave the job for honouring another contract. Still George and Fred are liable for completing the water system to the third party and here their liability is equal. Fred can claim payment from George for the work he has done. If he could prove that it was George's delay that caused him trouble, he might be able to get damages from George via Court. Still he will be liable to honour the first contract of completing water systems and will be forced to do so10.
